Open Water Scuba Diver
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba certification course. Learning to scuba dive requires both knowledge development (facts, principles, concepts) and motor procedures (skills, techniques, methods). You’ll gain the foundation skills and knowledge to dive with a buddy independent of supervision.
This course is your first diving certification level and is comprised of 3 levels, the knowledge development, confined water dives in our own in-house pool and the open water certification dives.
We encourage independent study for knowledge development before class begins. You will watch the DVD, read your PADI open Water Manual, and complete all knowledge reviews in the manual before your class begins.
When the class meets we will review any questions you may have, and spend the time needed to ensure your questions have been answered.
Then it’s off to the pool! The 5 confined water sessions will bring your skills along to ensure your comfort with the skills you will need for the open water certification.
Finally it’s time for your open water dives – where you will demonstrate to your instructor in 4 dives over 2 days, what you have learned the confined water sessions. You’ll have a lot of fun over the entire process, and when you complete your certification, you’ll have a PADI Open Water Diver certification Card, recognized world wide.
The group classes for classroom and pool sessions are normally done at Niagara Scuba Center’s own facilities. We can offer private or customized training off location, contact us for details.
Prerequisites: Minimum Age: 10
Course Cost $249.00 for group classes, includes Crewpak and use of DVD.
Students may share a DVD, but each student must have their own manual, Dive planner and a personal logbook.
We provide during confined water class: Use of BCD, Regulator, Gauges, and Weights during pool sessions, experienced PADI Instructor for the classroom and pool sessions.
You provide: Mask, Fins, snorkel, swim suit and towel.
Please note the cost of open water check-out dives and certification card are included in this price. However, if you do not have your own dive gear, a $99.00 fee will be charged for rental gear.
